Tranexamic Acid Injection is indicated for short-term control and prevention of heavy or excessive bleeding in some dental procedures in hemophilia patients. It can also be used for decreasing bleeding and blood replacement therapy related to trauma or orthopedic surgery.

Tranexamic acid belongs to the class of drugs known as antifibrinolytics. It acts by preventing blood clots from dissolving.

Tranexamic Acid Injection comes 500mg/5ml. The preparation is supplied in ampoules, which come in packs of 10 or 100.

Directions To Use 

  • This injection comes in a form to be injected into the vein. 
  • The injection is to be injected by a health care provider in the hospital or clinic environment.
  • Prior to the time of administration, the solution needs to be inspected visually for any particles or color change. 
  • Diluted solutions of tranexamic acid may be stored at room temperature for up to 4 hours.
  • When used, the medicine that has not been used should be discarded.
  • Unused ampoules of tranexamic acid must be kept in a dark place below 25°C. Do not freeze. 

Dosage

  • Dosage can differ depending on varying medical indications
  • Tranexamic Acid Injection may be used in adults and children but with caution in certain categories of patients.

Uses of Tranexamic Acid Injection 

  • It is used to manage bleeding due to dental procedures in hemophilia patients. It is also used to cut down on bleeding due to trauma or orthopedic surgery.
  • Tranexamic acid is also used (off-label) in massively bleeding patients who need massive transfusion protocols (MTP) or in the setting of proven hyper-fibrinolysis and in dermatology for the treatment of melasma and as a maintenance therapy for hereditary angioedema and urticaria.
