Cefuroxime Axetil 250 mg Tablets: Cefuroxime is a drug from the cephalosporin class of antibiotics, used for the treatment of a large number of bacterial infections. It is used to treat urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, uncomplicated gonorrhea (a sexually transmitted disease), and Lyme disease.

Cefuroxime consists of Cefuroxime, an extended-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits the functioning of the enzyme that synthesizes peptidoglycan (an essential part of the bacterial cell wall). The bacterial cell is therefore unable to grow and reproduce and is ultimately destroyed.

Cefuroxime can cause side effects such as headache, dizziness, nausea and stomach upset, Candida overgrowth (fungal infection of the skin), and a mouthful of disgusting taste. Such side effects tend to disappear after a while. Nevertheless, in case the side effects continue, visit your doctor.

Medical Benefits:

  • Cefuroxime is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that treats a vast range of bacterial infections caused by both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.
  • It is very effective in treating infections of the respiratory tract, ear, skin and soft tissues, genitourinary tract, and bone.
  • Besides treating established infections, Cefuroxime is also prescribed to prevent the dissemination of infections after a surgical operation.
  • It is also used for the early treatment of Lyme disease, which is produced by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, in adults and children aged 12 years or more.
  • Cefuroxime shows excellent antibacterial action against a variety of bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Uses:

  • Bacterial Infections: Cefuroxime is generally prescribed to treat a variety of bacterial infections, such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, ear infections, and skin infections.
  • Treatment of Bronchitis: Cefuroxime may be used to treat bronchitis, a respiratory infection of the air tubes leading to the lungs, by eliminating the causative bacterial infection.
  • Treatment of Gonorrhea: Cefuroxime cures gonorrhea, killing the bacteria and reducing symptoms.
  • Treatment of Lyme Disease: Cefuroxime may be employed to cure Lyme disease, an infection of bacteria transmitted by tick bites, to kill the bacteria and reduce symptoms.
  • Throat or Tonsil Infections Treatment: Cefuroxime can be administered to treat throat or tonsillitis bacterial infections, which makes the symptoms go away.
